The Brain Heart interaction….

The Brian and Nervous system functions as the “receiver” “perceiver” and “interpreter” of information. Also functions as the “planner” “controller” and “coordinator” of body functions. The brain also functions as the “informer” and “communicator” between the various organ systems of the body…

The Heart and the vascular systems, provides life to the whole systems through the blood which carries the Red Blood cells as the “Oxygen carrier” and the energy provider through the support provider for the energy processing cycles….

But interesting is the “intricate interaction” between these systems….one is closely dependant on the other…heart controlled by the autonomic nervous system, the rate, the force and the rhythm is under the influence of the same. Brian – cannot function is the Blood supply and Oxygen does not reach the brain, through the heart’s pumping action…1

Is this not true in our lives too – we function both from brain and heart – from brain as “rational planners” and from the heart as “passionate and compassionate life giving responders”.

If I was only a brain driven person all my responses would be from “dispassionate reasoning”…and there would be no life facilitated though the decisions might have been right…Where as if I was only functioning from the heart, I would end up taking decisions which are “seemingly life giving” but “not the “right decisions”…It is this heart brain interaction which makes our decisions balanced.

Even in team, we need both “Brainy” and “Hearty” people, so that the decisions are “well thought through” at the same time taken with “compassion and concern”…

When Jesus and the disciples were faced with the 5000+ hungry – it was interesting that the disciples as group were “reasonable and rational”…8 months wages will not be enough to give food, we do not have the resources…let them go….where as Jesus was “compassionate and caring” – he was moved with compassion and requested the disciples, you give them something to eat….and out of this motivation…the disciples were forced to step out in faith with the limited resources they had….And miracle happened….

Moral – we need a Master who will motivate us to leave our brains aside off and on…and challenge us to take steps in faith…then miracles will happen…..so it is better to be a “hearty” person - one through whom God can facilitate miracles…?Or brainy one, who is wiling to keep the brain aside at times..!
