Lost focus
My last blog was almost 4 and half months back. I have
been sitting and thinking, why has I "postponed" or
"procrastinated" this for such a long time. Well the question was -
did I "procrastinate" or "postpone"...
In psychology, procrastination refers
to the act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of lower priority, or
doing something from which one derives enjoyment, and thus putting off
important tasks to a later time. (Wikipedia)
Postponement is a business strategy
that maximizes possible benefit and minimizes risk by
delaying further investment into a product or service until
the last possible moment. (Wikipedia)
Was it because "blogging" was "low
priority" or I found something "more enjoyable" that blogging
could be easily put off? Or was this strategic delay for
a perceived "right time"....?
Both seems to be farfetched.....the fact was that blogging
went off the horizon, because clouds of "urgent" and
"critical" took the focus off from the "enjoyable" and
"important"....
This challenge seems to be built into our physical and
emotional systems....
Look at "post-postprandial somnolence" - food
in stomach, redistributes blood supply to stomach and there is
a relative hypo-perfusion" to brain leading to
"somnolence". That is why we sleep off after meals...! A
reactive response to a perceived need...
Pain pathways are made in such a way that when a
stronger or different pain impulse comes in the weaker or different is
subdued - this is the principle of local applications with Capsicoids
and soothing agents - a new and different impulse over rides the
existing ones...used much by
Pharma industries to develop many
topical applications....A proactive utilization of body systems
for symptom relief....but (root issues may not be addressed)...
Emotional - one crises is enough for us to lose the joy
of the many blessings which was have enjoyed over years...One laugh is enough
to help us to forget the pain which we are facing - at least momentarily - may
not be for long term...
But spiritual? - Bible says - in adjacent verses -
The Spirit left Saul...the Spirit came down
on David....the Spirit indwells in us....but why is that when we
are emotionally down we feel as if the Spirit has left...
Patterns like these built into our systems bring up an
interesting issue - why are these built in - are they "protective"
for "reactive" and "reflex" mediated preservation or
are they to be "pro-actively managed" for the greater “purposes”....of
what I am made for...and called for....
The natural tendency to lose focus has to be
pro-actively managed by capturing a "glimpse of horizon" between
the gaps in the clouds....which are always there, if one looks for the
same.... refocusing our eyes on the facts which do not change though
the feelings do change...
I heard an senior leader saying this last week - I might
lose my eye sight but I will not lose my vision......
