Making shopping for clothes a spiritual experience (for men who do not enjoy the same)
An old write up - written during the holidays...but did not have the courage to post it...!!
Accompanying your spouse to shop for clothes could be a
tiring and burdensome activity for some. There are those rare men who enjoy
this, so thank God if you are one of them. But if you are one, who does not
detest shopping but consider as a necessary submission as part of the married
life, you need to go though, is it possible to change it an enriching
experience? I believe so.
Four steps to make it such an experience.
As you enter, observe, Celebrate and enjoy the creativity of
God, the colours he has created, the beauty of creation, the variety of people.
Celebrate the image of God, in us humans, evident through the ability to create
dresses and various colours.
As your wife tries various dresses, Reflect on the
imperfection we carry in our lives due to fall. Reflect on ways humans try to
recapture the lost perfection by trying to create a near perfect image through
external adornings and dresses. Praise God for the ability God has given to us
to create this near perfect image. Praise God that there will be a day when we
will no longer be nearly perfect but fully perfect internally and externally.
Enjoy the near perfection of your spouse and the perfection she has in Christ.
As you move around in the shops, Thank God for opportunity
God has given us to serve our spouse. Thank God for the many ways she has
served you. Thank God for the shops, the people who serve us, and help us to
select clothes and give their expert advise.
As the bill comes to you, use this as an opportunity to
thank God for the resources he give. Also reflect on how you manage Gods
resources which he has given to you. Say a prayer for many who do not have
these resources.
And as you get out thank God for the opportunity he has
given you to serve and pray for more such opportunities.
Try this once, you will enjoy every trip now onwards!
Wonderful! How amazing to see love in action - a choice, a giving in and submitting in love out of reverence for Christ! Eph. 5.20
