Mind matters....
We students of science and our educational system has led us
to reason that, if B causes A, (the so called normal which we have decided as the
“acceptable normal”) to be “damaged” or “affected”, and if C is the antidote for
B all you need is to deploy C, and the
system will fall back to a normal A.
We also tend to believe, the A we see as normal is the
normal – anything different is “Abnormal”…and is to be facilitated back to “normal”
or to be “tolerated”, if we cannot facilitate back the same…
We also tend to work with the notion that, the change should
be within “x” number of time span and that if that does not happen, something
has failed and has gone wrong…and we re-start the process of identifying D,
which could be better than C…
Recently I was sitting through a “Public health discussion” –
that so much of resources and interventions have been put into this group and
has led to excellent results in some parts of the country but other parts have
not done well, and so we need to double our efforts in those pockets, so that
we can see the results “we want to see” soon! What was that they wanted to see –
a % of a health index which they defined as “Acceptable” and “Normal”….
It is this reasoning that has led to the “discovery” of many
“innovative” answers to life’s problems…But the challenge is that these reasoning’s
and thinking permeates every aspect of our thinking and affects the way we see
life and we start seeing all what happens through these perceptions and
spectacles..
Look around and reflect – the universe as we know it – the milky
way cannot exist without the rest of the galaxies...(at least as far we know
it), the solar system cannot exist without rest of its family in the milky way,
the earth as we know it cannot exist without the Sun, the Nations on the earth cannot
exist without the interdependence we have with other nations, the ethnic
communities though want to have their own segregated lives cannot exist without
others around them, none of us can exist without our families or extended families
or the “new families” we are part of….
Or look at the body systems and reflect - the cardio-vascular
system cannot exist without the Nervous systems, and vice-versa, similarly the Endocrine
without the NS, the Skeletal without muscular, the GI without the Vascular, the
GU without the vascular and the NS and it goes own….and even individual cells –
they have no existence without the dependence on each other…even the loose
cannons like WBCs!
Systems are dependent on each other all around us…whether it
is body, family, community, nation, earth, solar system or universe…God set
these patters for us to see and learn that life is a dependant and interdependent
one and we cannot reason out everything by 1+1=2….!
And we do not recognize that in the creation, in our body
and systems and in the universe there is
so much of variety and diversity that, if one starts looking carefully, the
whole definition of what is “normal” itself would need to be re-defined…
Is aging
“Normal” or “Abnormal”….if it is normal..why fight it….is a genetic mutation –
a normal variation – if so why not celebrate it…Who decides who is normal, intelligent
and smart – today IQ, tomorrow EQ and
future SQ….? (Social/Spiritual/other…)
And we lose the sight of an “eternal” plan of an “eternal;
God”….that Nations, families, communities, even our individual lives are
expected to be part of an eternal plan of God…the mountains which we face each
day….might look like a small dent or hump…at the end of our life… and if we see
this from eternity…we may not even notice the same….
People, institutions, organizations, nations, Kingdoms will
come and go..but the eternal plans of God and his kingdom will go on….
So – How shall then we live – Scientific “reductional”
thinking Vs System and comprehensive thinking, celebrating variety and redefining “normal” and an
eternal perspective to a temporal life….
