Lessons I Did Not Learn in Delhi (Mid week ramblings)
Front (and back) yard cleaning is a must, though the back can be ignored since people don’t see it frequently. But then, it is sore to my eyes and starts stinking if ignored for too long. I prefer to ignore most days, after an initial enthusiasm.
True for life too? Unseen parts left out too long…One knows what happens!
Cleaning becomes tough when leaves are sticky and wet.
A heart wet with desires too - is tough to clean up…it sticks to your heart!
When the ground is uneven, rocky, full of crevices, and overgrown - cleaning is more challenging.
An unprepared heart is tough to manage…I don’t have much time for this :(
If the tool is crooked, not maintained well, or not used properly, cleaning becomes tough.
The tool I have for my heart is effective, but I don’t use it well. (The Word). Some days it is like water rolling off a duck's back; or like a wind which cools me for a short time, and then I am sweating in the humid heat of Kerala.
Neighbours’ leaves fall into your yard. I realise I can’t do much about it - not even complain. I can only clean my yard.
Much like this in life too…Others life affect us too...
Maybe I can create some boundaries, but in housing societies, what is above the wall is beyond boundaries. Which means leaves will fall. A friend suggested - tile the yard. Then another friend told a story of someone who fell on slippery tiles and broke a hip. Well-meaning family members suggested growing grass, but reminded me that cleaning will still be a challenge since weeds will grow and leaves will fall. Yet another friend suggested paving stones and pebbles in the yard - but the heat they dissipate and the continued challenge of cleaning don’t give this option much weightage.
The summary is—there are many options to choose from - to take care of your yard and your heart too…And everyone will give you their well meaning options.
So what should work?
Some pruning, some preparing the yard, some boundaries (within limits), and the daily attention to cleaning. Same for heart too...
I can’t subcontract this to anyone else—unlike in Delhi. Or brag and ramble less :) and take care of cleaning
